Score 93/100 · Drink 2017-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Dec 2017

The 2008 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma is a dark and impenetrable wine with an inky black appearance. The wine pours from the bottle with thick intensity and layers of blackberry confit, bitter chocolate, exotic spice, scorched earth and Cuban cigar. This is a big wine with broad shoulders, although this cooler vintage takes some of that characteristic opulence down a notch or two.
