Score 95/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2025

The producer’s bottling from younger vines, the 2022 CVR Columbia Valley Red Wine blends 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot this vintage. Typically released before Thanksgiving, it offers insanely perfumed aromatics atop plushy tannins, giving way to a pillowy, full-bodied mouthfeel. Red fruit is supported by these soft tannins and well-integrated oak, making it more approachable in its youth. Still, it’s got 10+ years to go in bottle.

The 2022 CVR is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. It’s composed of lightly pressed and free-run juice and was matured mostly in Darnajou barrels. It unfolds slowly on the nose to reveal rich blackcurrant and cherry fruit and nuances of tobacco leaves, turned earth, chocolate and black licorice. The full-bodied palate offers concentrated flavors, Goldilocks ripeness and effortlessly integrated new oak spice. It has a seamless structure of powdery tannins and refreshing acidity, and its finish is long and nuanced. Drink it now or over the next decade. 5,200 cases were made.

The 2022 CVR entices with a vivid blend of crushed raspberries and licorice complemented by autumnal spice and a dusting of cocoa. This is sleek and polished in feel, with a tinge of sour citrus elevating juicy wild berry fruits, as a core of vibrant acidity maintains fantastic energy throughout. A hint of dark chocolate lingers as the 2022 finishes cool-toned and fresh, leaving silken tannins that perfectly frame the experience.
