Bright, dark ruby. Vibrant nose combines aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, crushed rock, licorice and violet. Suaver than the Spring Mountain Cabernet; a step up in energy and juicy focus thanks to its insistent minerality but at the same time suppler and finer-grained. This extremely intense, classy wine finishes with suave tannins and terrific palate-staining persistence. More sharply delineated than the Spring Mountain bottling, and at an earlier stage of its evolution in bottle.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard saturates the palate with masses of super-ripe, opulent fruit. This head spinning, viscerally thrilling wine possesses striking inner perfume and tons of richness in a full-throttle style that is highly expressive. Elements of ripeness and classicism are beautifully balanced here.

I have a slight preference for 2008 versus 2009 when it comes to the Cabernets, as the 2008s seem to have a touch more delineation and structure than the 2009s, which come across as a bit more forward. Both vintages are going to be a lot of fun to watch over the coming years. Tel. (707) 287-1630

Full ruby-red. Blackberry, blueberry, loam and smoky minerality on the nose; the most complex and vibrant of this set of cabernets. Lush on entry, then firm in the middle, with a light touch to the scented flavors of dark berries and minerals. Finishes broad and smooth, with a restrained sweetness and suave tannins covered by fruit.
