Tasting notes
Impressive blend of 60 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Very rich and earthy on the palate with a lovely texture. Full, broad yet quite lively enough. Some tannins still in evidence. Very harmonious blend in which the Syrah just adds a certain savour. (JR)

This Bordeaux-inspired blend is the finest wine I have tasted from Swanson since they let winemaking consultant Helen Turley depart a few years ago. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1997 Alexis (3,400 cases) offers an attractive nose of blackberry, cherry, loamy soil, licorice, and vanilla scents. With medium to full body, a creamy, fleshy texture, sweet tannin, low acidity, and admirable extraction, it is impressive and ageworthy. Moreover, it has not been excessively acidified. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. Tel. (707) 944-0905; Fax (707) 944-0955
