Tasting notes
(14%): Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Blackberry, cassis and licorice on the nose, plus a faint whiff of incipient maderization. Concentrated, pliant dark berry flavors are fresher in the mouth than on the nose. Offers less flavor interest than the Lamb but here the firm, granular tannins are more resolved and there's less of an acid streak. This finishes a bit tight and yet it also seems to be a bit past its peak.

The 1997 Coach Insignia (77% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc) is powerful, with a seamless personality. The wine is moderately tannic and full-bodied, with loads of chocolatey, black cherry, and cassis fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2014. Tel. (707) 539-7511; Fax (707) 539-3601
Very good deep ruby. Syrupy, raw fruit aromas of black cherry and cassis. Fresh and perfumed in the mouth, with strong dark fruit flavors complicated by slightly rustic leather and meat notes. Finishes with very good grip and length.
