Something a little oxidative to the fruit here, and it tastes rather well-worn on the palate. Soft and drinkable, with enjoyable earthiness on the finish, but not the freshest primary flavours. (RH)

The 2008 du Tertre was a small crop of 28hl/ha, a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. This has been an inconsistent performer over the years with some bottles showing some greenness, although this example was better with light blackberry and cedar aromas at first, a hint of black olive and a light marine scent that gradually develops. I would just like a little more intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, touches of mulberry, spice box and clove with a slightly short finish that nevertheless, offers good substance. This has aged nicely over the last decade and is probably perfect to drink now and over the next few years. (Tasted at the château and at BI Wine & Spirit’s annual vertical tasting.)

Mid ruby. Light aroma. A bit low key but fresh – almost reminds me of a good Rioja Alavesa! Fresh and refreshing even if without big impact. (JR)
