Coming from a rocky estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Hideaway Vineyard reveals a deep purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of ripe black fruits, tobacco, scorched earth, candied violets, and orange blossom. With medium to full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and a fresh yet concentrated, powerful style, this is pure Napa goodness to drink over the coming two decades or more.

The Cabernet Sauvignon Hideaway is once again terrific in 2018. Grilled herbs, iron, dried flowers, red fruit and cedar give the 2018 striking layers of savory intensity. This mid-weight, structured Cabernet delivers the goods. The Hideaway emerges from a parcel that is closer to Continuum than it is to the core holdings near and around the winery. It is a striking contrast to Chappellet's flagship Pritchard Hill Cabernet.

The Hideaway vineyard is located on the slopes of Pritchard Hill at an elevation of 1,425 feet. Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Hideaway Vineyard was aged in French oak barrels, 80% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes galloping out of the glass with notes of freshly crushed blackberries, black cherries and ripe black currants plus suggestions of licorice, unsmoked cigars and dried Provence herbs with a waft of cast iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate displays wonderful energy with loads of mineral sparks lifting the black fruits along with impressive freshness, framed by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long with an herbal lift.
