Tasting notes
Beringer's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Lampyridae Vineyard, from the slopes of Mt. Veeder, is decidedly wild and exotic. Red plum, iron, pomegranate, wild flowers, rose petals, minerals and savory herbs flow though the powerful, explosive finish. The 2012 boasts considerable structure and potential for the future, but far less in the way of immediate appeal. Accordingly, the Lampyridae is best cellared for at least a handful of years.

The magnificent 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Lampyridae Vineyard comes from Mt. Veeder, one of my favorite sources when the Cabernet achieves full ripeness. Blueberry, black raspberry, floral, licorice, lavender and a hint of blood aromas jump from the glass of this dense, full-bodied, voluptuously textured wine. This super-impressive 2012 should drink well for 15-20 years.
