The 2011 Brut Millésime Cuvée Angeline Premier Cru (60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay) is a soft, easygoing Champagne to drink now and over the next few years. Time has softened some of the angular contours I saw two years ago, but this remains a light-bodied wine with limited mid-palate depth and a rather straightforward, lighthearted personality. Tangerine peel, truffled, dried notes and vanillin linger. Dosage is 7-8 grams per liter.

The 2011 Brut Millésimé Cuvée Angeline Premier Cru is a solid wine for this very tricky vintage. Diffuse aromatics and angular contours are signs of a Champagne that is fraying at the edges. The presence of early oxidative notes is not terribly encouraging. Even so, there is enough energy to support a few years in the cellar. Orange confit, dried herbs, crushed flowers, spice and chamomile lend complexity. I suggest drinking the 2011 over the near term, before vegetal notes become overpowering.
