Tasting notes
The 2021 L’Avion is a blend of 93% Roussanne and 7% Chardonnay made from vines planted in 1995 and 1999. It has inviting aromas of baked apples, bread dough, matchstick and charcuterie with savory undertones. The full-bodied palate features concentrated, savory fruit, an alluring touch of textural grip, just enough rounded freshness and a long, honeyed finish. 500 cases were made.

The 2021 Roussanne L'Avion is a gorgeous, delicate wine. Over the years, Stolpman has dialed this wine back a bit, and that has paid off in spades. There's superb purity here. Orchard fruit, spice, tangerine oil, mint and light buttery notes all grace this racy, layered Roussanne. As always, there's a dollop of Chardonnay in the blend.
Smoking good notes of honeyed peach, orchard fruits, chamomile, and flower oil all emerge from the 2021 Roussanne L'Avion (there’s 7% Chardonnay), a medium to full-bodied, rich, yet still vibrant and focused white with good acidity. The palate is more restrained and tighter than the nose would have you believe, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this benefit from a year of bottle age.
Contains 7% Chardonnay. Crushed and pressed into barrels for native yeast fermentation. Ages in 60% new, 40% neutral French puncheons for 12 additional months prior to bottling. 19 months total barrel age. 500 cases made. Light gold with a faint haze. Scents of sweet vanilla, poached pear and white flowers. Flavours of pear and vanilla crème anglaise have a light tannic grip, with hints of baking spices lingering in the finish. Decent acidity, though I might wish for more. (AY)
