Attractive red fruit aromas, simple and easy-drinking. Soft mouthfeel, well-integrated acidity and attractive concentration delivering plenty of flavour but retaining a sense of restraint. Perhaps not the most exciting style, but it is authentic to the village. (RH)

(just half of a normal crop; includes purchased grapes): Medium red. Lovely mineral pungency to the aromas of raspberry and redcurrant. Then rather serious and bound-up in the mouth, even austere, with fairly intense blueberry and menthol flavors showing limited early sweetness. This rather serious village wine displays sound acidity and good length. (I was not wild about the Nuits-Saint-Georges village wine, which was a bit too lean and minty.)

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Village is a “micro-cuvée” from their own vines, augmented by purchased grapes from their neighbor. I found the aromatics a little muffled compared to say, the Monthélie, with broody dark berry fruit quite Morey-Saint-Denis in style. The palate is medium-bodied and performs better than the aromatics—fine tannin, well balanced with a pretty finish albeit missing some of Chambolle’s flamboyance.
