Full bottle 1,335 g. First time I have encountered a special back label for a 'media sample'! 100% Gamay from south-facing Les Thorins, east-facing Le Moulin-à-Vent and 80-year-old vines in Aix Caves parcel. All on granite in a year favoured by winds that saved the health of the grapes. Back label says 60- to 100-year-old vines; tech spec suggests 40- to 80-year-old. Juicy, deep-flavoured, sweet Gamay fruit with real lift and freshness. This should have quite a long life! Great vivacity and persistence. Powerful! Tastes much stronger than 13% alcohol. The wine is not overpriced. (JR)

Cedary herbs, spring flowers, wild strawberries, and more currant-like fruits emerge from the 2018 Château Moulin A Vent, a medium-bodied, juicy, lively red to drink in its youth.

The 2018 Moulin-à-Vent is a sumptuous, wonderfully expressive wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice and spice all flesh out in a racy Beaujolais endowed with terrific richness. The 2018 can be enjoyed now, but it also has the richness to age gracefully in the cellar for years to come. Readers who enjoy wines with more complexity will certainly want to wait a bit. The 30% whole clusters are not especially evident.

Tank sample. Dark-red fruit, a touch of oak spice. Chewy and sweet-fruited on the palate, quite open and surprisingly soft in both tannins and acidity. Not sure if this will be one for the very long term but the balance is lovely. (JH)
