Score 88/100 · Drink 2015-2022, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

The 2010 Barolo 4 Vigne is a toasted, sassy wine with evident oak tones of cinnamon and hazelnut at the back of ripe fruit and Amarena cherry. Fruit is picked from four vineyard sites across the appellation and the results are especially well integrated in the beautifully balanced 2010 vintage. Saddle leather, cigar ash and dried mint fill in the rear, imparting a sense of richness and texture along the way. Drink: 2015-2022. Cascina Adelaide occupies it own school of Barolo winemaking that embraces modern techniques and a fruit-forward style. This estate shows particular confidence when it comes to the copious use of French oak. This style won't appeal to everyone but Cascina Adelaide boasts an unwavering support base of enthusiast fans. Among the single-vineyard expressions presented this year, the Barolo Fossati is the standout. Fruit comes from La Morra with veins of red and grey clay soils. That extra structure derived from the vineyard, combined with the subdued elegance of the vintage make for a knock out wine. Importer: Superiore Wines, www.superiorwineselections.com
