Tasting notes
Castiglione Falletto. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Savoury, saline minerally notes over complex, generous red fruit. Generous, suave palate but at the same time restrained and with bags of gravelly tannins that are perfectly in line with the fruit. Fantastic length, precision and generosity. (WS)

The Cavallotto 2019 Barolo Riserva Vignolo (a certified organic wine) shows an earthy and savory side with the extra texture and concentration that is characteristic of this warm vintage. With fruit selected from a 1.96-hectare site with 40-year-old vines, the wine reveals a core of black and purple fruits, with dried plum and blackcurrant. It closes with powdery tannins. This Riserva ages for a long 60 months in 20-hectoliter and 50-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks. Production is limited to 6,566 bottles.
Castiglione Falletto. Lustrous, concentrated ruby. Exotic spice notes over brooding fruit, and with the merest suggestion of tamarind. Then, with aeration, pure raspberry coulis. Fantastic fullness of fruit without being heavy and charged with energetic acidity. Very long and sleek yet concentrated, and with bags of fine, gravelly tannins. (WS)
Castiglione Falletto. Cask sample. Lustrous and just mid ruby. Crushed stones and a hint of cinnamon bark, but not from oak. The fruit opens up and becomes more voluminous in the glass with aeration. Polished and with fine but persistent tannins. Layered but still very embryonic. Closes up on the finish. Fluid. (WS)
