Tasting notes
From the eastern part of the cru (paragneiss and a bit of loess), the 2019 Ried Pfaffenberg Steiner Riesling Selection opens with a clear, deep and complex, darker-toned and flinty bouquet of crushed stones, herbs and white and yellow stone fruits. Dense and juicy on the palate, this is a round, textured and mouth-filling Pfaffenberg based on a smart part of botrytis, and it has an intense and finely tannic finish. The wine is finessed and salty-elegant, with dense, juicy fruit and fine tannins. A sustainable and powerful but tensioned wine that has to be aged for 5–6 years. Tasted at the domaine in June 2021.

Such beautiful peach and apricot aromas with just a hint of pineapple, pulling you into this concentrated yet joyful wine that has such graceful harmony. Then comes a steam train of minerality at the intense, very long finish. Drink or hold.
