Tasting notes
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru has a well-defined nose that just needs a little more intensity; scents of rose petal, hawthorn and incense develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with silky-smooth tannins, supple and rounded. A very sensual and seductive Vosne-Romanée, all curves and no edges, and quite powerful on the finish. This deserves time and will certainly repay cellaring. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts wafts from the glass with pretty aromas of rosehip, plums, small red berries, French roast and incense. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with lovely energy and detail, underpinned by tangy acids and concluding with a long, mineral finish. While this is quite wood inflected at present, it's pure, vibrant and decidedly promising.
There’s a hint of vanilla sweetness here entwined with lovely red fruits. A fresh herbal note too. Real finesse in the texture. Cool, and glides across the palate with beauty and elegance. A really sophisticated wine that does not seduce or charm but has compact complexity and tension in a dry fine length. Very reserved. Not demonstrative. Not showy. Je suis là . (JH)
