2014 Fourcas Borie

The Château Fourcas-Borie 2014 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It has quite an outgoing tobacco and sous-bois-scented bouquet. This is very classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, sweet black, graphite tinged fruit with quite an elegant, pencil-lead, Pauillac-like finish. This is a fine Listrac-Moulis to enjoy over the next decade.

60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot. ‘When my beloved mother put me in charge of Ducru on 3 January 2003, I decided to continue this property where my mother was born. We absorbed Fourcas Dumont too which had its own winery. The INAO forced Cabernet Sauvignon on us but in Listrac it’s very difficult to ripen so we favour Merlot and Petit Verdot there.’ Sells for €15 in France. Pretty deep purplish crimson. Pretty exceptionally ripe on the nose. Then a bit stringy on the palate. Tough finish. (JR)
