Expressive and ethereal at the same time. Inviting complexity. Plenty of pure red-berry fruit – dried, fresh and compote. Orange peel, spice and a touch of resinous herbs weaving through the fruit. Gently floral perfume hovering above, too. Silky, ripe, intense red fruit, chocolate orange and spice. Delicious acidity holds the flavours together with such elegance. Long, fresh, beautifully melded tannins. Graceful and fine. (OC)

Pale garnet with sliced blueberries, strawberry, charcuterie, cracked pepper and herbs, the light to medium-bodied 2017 Grenache Shake Ridge Ranch features fresh fruits and savory accents in the mouth with a gentle frame of tannin and juicy acidity, finishing long.

One of the more expensive wines in the lineup, the 2017 Grenache Shake Ridge Ranch comes from a site in the Sierra Foothills and was two-thirds destemmed and brought up in 24% new French oak. It has a wonderful yet subtle bouquet of ripe cherries, macerated strawberries, crushed rocks, and white flowers that develops beautifully with time in the glass. Rich, medium-bodied, and incredibly elegant, it just glides over the palate and has an awesome texture. It's not for the lovers of big, powerful Grenache, but it’s flawlessly balanced, with fine tannins and a great finish. Angela Osbourne continues to make a transparent, elegant, ethereal style of Grenache that at time seems more Pinot Noir than Grenache. These latest releases are beautiful.

The 2017 Grenache Shake Ridge Ranch comes across as faded and lacking in freshness and the complexity I am used to seeing here. There is no getting around the feeling of a wine that feels shocked by the heat of the year, even though this fruit was picked in early October.
