Score 94/100 · Drink 2015-2031, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

More classic in style than the ridiculously endowed and concentrated 2003, the 2001 Hermitage Blanc les Rocoules gives up ample currants and quince- like fruits to go with more subtle licorice, wax and honey. Harvested September 12-15, it's full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and textured, all while staying lively, balanced and fresh.

(Sorrel moved the wine into cuve in September to get the alcoholic fermentation to finish; he planned to return it to pieces afterwards; 14.5% alcohol) Musky aromas of lime and spice. High-toned but sweet, with firm acids giving delineation to the very ripe fruit and honey flavors. Very chewy and uncompromisingly dry wine, with a honeyed aftertaste.
