Score 91/100 · Drink 2017-2025, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

The barrique-aged 2010 Barolo opens to a dark garnet color and shows a deep, velvety quality of fruit with black cherry, dried blackberry and light tobacco shadings. This wine delivers heft, good structure and rich texture. Fruit is a blend from Monforte d’Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba. Drink: 2017-2025. Davide Mozzone farms eight separate vineyard parcels with holdings in Castiglione Falletto, Diano d’Alba, Serralunga d’Alba and Monforte d’Alba. His top wine of the vintage is the Barolo Pernanno that is sourced from a two-hectare site just off the main road that leads to the Castiglione Falletto castle. Castiglione Falletto. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Opulent cherry nose and hints of balsamic oak. Rich fruit intermingled with exotic spice. Has the Nebbiolo freshness and grip, but a very exotic and very unusual aromatic finish. A little weird; is this the oak? (WS)

Freshly cut flowers, red berries and spices jump from the glass in the 2010 Barolo. This is one of the juicier 2010 Barolos readers will come across. I would prefer to drink the 2010 over the next few years, while the fruit retains its vibrancy. Hints of tobacco, cinnamon and leather add complexity on the close. This is a beautiful, fruit-driven Barolo well-suited for near-term drinking. The aromatics are a bit reduced today, but the 2010 was just bottled. If the bouquet finds a little more focus the 2010 might merit a slightly higher rating. Proprietor Davide Mozzone blends fruit from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga for his entry-level bottling.
