Tasting notes
A spectacular effort from proprietor Mauro Vannucci, this super 1996 Carmignano Riserva (1,000 cases produced) boasts an opaque purple color in addition to sweet, jammy, blackberry and raspberry aromas intertwined with vanilla and coffee. Rich, with low acidity, full body, and a viscous texture, this superb 1996 can be drunk now or cellared for a decade. A Marc de Grazia Selection, imported by Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. Very saturated dark ruby. Cassis, black raspberry, dark chocolate and oak spice on the nose. Dense and primary, with sappy flavors of currant, chocolate and tobacco brightened by sound acidity. Shows a thoroughly ripe cabernet character. Long, subtle finish features suave, even tannins. A Carmignano with impressive potential.
