The vineyard designated wines begin with the 2009 Pinot Noir Chestnut Hill Vineyard. The nose reveals some heat along with notes of potpourri, incense, and spicy red fruits. Savory, smooth, and ripe on the palate, this medium long wine will provide enjoyment over the next 6-7 years. Lemelson Vineyards makes their wines with native yeast fermentations and bottles them without fining or filtration. Tel. (503) 852-6619; www.lemelsonvineyards.com

Ruby-red. Raspberry and roasted coffee on the nose, with complicating notes of dried rose and sassafras. Sappy and broad in the mouth, with very good depth to its sweet red and dark berry flavors. Finishes spicy and focused, with lingering notes of star anise, camphor and white pepper. Tightly wound but very promising, with no excess fat.
