Score 88/100 · Drink 2017-2022, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

Like the 2012 vintage, the 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva is born in a hot and dry year. This wine shows signs of premature evolution with aromas of used leather, candied fruit and cured meat. There is some fresh fruit at the core but I'm not confident it will last much longer. I'd suggest a five-year drinking window at most. This Riserva is made with 80% Sangiovese blended with other Tuscan red varieties.

Carpineto' s 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva is a bold, rustic wine. Black cherry, smoke, tobacco, game and earthiness are pushed to the front. Although a bit burly and rough around the edges, the 2011 is long on personality. I would prefer to see a bit more purity, especially in the aromatics. Otherwise, this is a solid wine in a very challenging vintage. There is good density to the fruit, but the aromatics are starting to mature, so I would prefer to drink the 2011 sooner rather than later.
