Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2013
(from seven-year-old vines in the Engelhard Vineyard at the foot of Diamond Mountain, within the Calistoga appellation and adjacent to Levy-McClellan): Dark red-ruby. Slightly funky aromas of cassis and blueberry, along with a cool herbal quality. Supple and nicely intense, with good lift to the slightly herbal flavors of cassis, black pepper and black olive. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins. A work in progress but clearly one to follow.
