Score 92/100 · Drink 1998-2018, Robert Parker, Dec 1998
The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Select is a beautifully rendered wine with an opaque plum color, and knock-out aromatics of cedarwood, cassis, cigar box, and roasted Provencal herbs. With more structure than the 1997, it is a jammy, rich, concentrated, full-bodied wine that can be drunk now or cellared for two decades. This beauty remains one of the better values in great California Cabernet Sauvignon. Tel. (707) 965-3020; Fax (707) 963-7874

Currant aroma complicated by floral, spicy and minty nuances. Aromatic and gamey in the mouth; bright and sweet. Finishes long and firmly tannic, with distinct leather, animal and cigar ash notes.
