As you step up to the heart of the Adamvs wines with the Quintvs bottling, the grapes are sourced from five separate sections of the vineyard, each with different soil types. You get a more intense and complex body, with edges of violet flowers, pomegrante, smoked earth, leather, incense, liqourice, blueberry and cassis, still with the slate and pencil lead charatcer. 80% new French oak. It's at a great moment to begin drinking, but no rush at all. Philippe Melka consultant.

Moving to the QUINTVS cuvee, this can be though up as the second wine of the estate, yet it sees the same elevage and winemaking as the top wine, spending 22 months in new barrels. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon QUINTVS certainly doesn’t taste like a second wine and it offers incredible, full-bodied notes of chocolate laced black fruits, violets, bay leaf, and loads of cedary herbs. This is a quintessential Howell Mountain Cabernet that’s drinking brilliantly today yet will cruise for another two decades or more.
Dark ruby in color, with a spicy, dark chocolate and blackberry profile, ending with a piquant, dark cassis finish. 92 Points
This is their first vintage. Philippe Melka is winemaker. This Adams family also makes wine in St-Émilion and own Ch Fonplégade. Dark crimson. 2010 was different in the mountains from lower down. A vintage that was challenging but not as wet as 2011 at harvest. Quite sweet and sinewy. Lots of heat on the mid palate! But some character and mountain precision. Blackberries with resin. (JR)
