Score 92-95/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2010

(malo done) Bright ruby-red. Sexy oak spice complements sweet aromas of cherry and flowers, with a mineral underpinning contributing a more serious aspect. Then compellingly broad, supple and deep, with sweeter, more layered fruit flavors than the foregoing samples. The same wine pulled from a used barrel (the blend will be 70% new oak) was tighter, juicier and more animal, and opened out even more impressively on the back half, displaying superb energy and grip and intriguing soil tones. This should prove to be one of Esmonin's most exciting wines of recent years.
