The 2019 Section 94 is savory and a little sweaty on the nose, with lemongrass, pressed linen, beeswax and wet chalk. In the mouth, the wine is gently grippy and highly structural, which is a very attractive character to me. It gives shape to the fruit and reflects the season from whence it came. While I may prefer the nose on the 2020, the palate of the 2019 is superb. This shows a profusion of crushed rocks and minerals here. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. A note on the alcohol measurement: I would be inclined to say that 14% is on the higher side for Sauvignon Blanc; however, the condition of the fruit feels to be impeccable, and there is no hint of warmth through the finish. It's an interesting measurement to note, for the sake of having more information, yet until you have visited the site and understand the house style, it is merely another aspect of the wine.

Full screwcapped bottle a not-that-light 1,304 g. Single-vineyard, oaked bottling. Nicely judged low-key oaking makes a complex wine that deserves to be tasting alongside, for instance, D Dagueneau's more ambitious bottlings. Nettles and lots of ripe green fruit. If I had to drink mainly this sort of wine all the time, however good this one is, it would drive me mad. But this is a good stab at a serious Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Long. (JR)
