Score 94/100 · Drink 2025-2037, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, Jul 2024
There's a lot to like in the 2022 Majorum, despite its wax seal - which makes a bloody mess when opening no matter how you do it. It's a meal with its substance, firmness and almost tannic grip, making it a wine that will outlive 99% of Pouilly Fumés and make some interesting food pairings. It is a wine with a grunt and doesn't bother with Sauvignon-like aromas but goes for a savory side with extended aging on lees (16-18 months), giving the boot to the variety's more playful aromatics. I am happy to see just 13.5% alcohol; in recent warm vintages, the alcohol levels have knocked this wine's balance. Welcome back.
