The 1995 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio (magnum) is a big step up from the 1993. It possesses remarkable textural depth and intensity. Dark-toned fruit, graphite, incense, licorice and exotic spice overtones abound. This mysterious, dynamic wine captures all the magic that only Barolo can offer. It’s a wine of pure and total seduction. What a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

The 1995 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio is incredibly rich, powerful and young. Dark cherries, minerals and flowers come to life as this dense Barolo opens up in the glass. An array of tobacco, smoke and licorice nuances linger on the eternal finish. This youthful Barolo is undoubtedly one of the stars of the 1995 vintage in Piedmont. The wine is approachable today, but will be even better with another few years in bottle.

Giuseppe Mascarello’s 1995 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d’Morissio was stunning. A bright dark red, it was by far the youngest of these three 1995 Barolos, and is easily one of the two or three least-evolved wines of the vintage. It presented notes of flowers, spices, red fruits and minerals, all considered to be hallmarks of the Monprivato vineyard, but with more intensity and power, showing an attractive sweetness and fullness on the palate, great length and plenty of structure. It was the unanimous favorite among these 1995s, the only problem is that it was opened a decade or two too soon. I can only recommend patience to those fortunate enough to own one of the 1,700 bottles made in this vintage.

1995 Barolo Riserva Ca' d'Morissio—Lively medium ruby. A huge wine…dense and extracted with generous amounts of rich red fruit and a distinct element of minerality, with tremendous length and sustain on the palate. A super effort.
