(14% alcohol): Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Lovely spicy lift to the aromas of red berries, flowers, pepper, smoke and earth. Savory, spicy and surprisingly intense; a very salty style with as much minerality and soil character as fresh red berry fruits and spices. Firm acidity too. This would be great with a grilled steak. Very distinctive wine with penetrating grip and suave tannins. I can see this making interesting old bones.

The 2014 Hannibal is a blend of 33% Sangiovese, 22% Pinot Noir, 18% Shiraz, 17% Nebbiolo, 6% Mourvedre and 4% Barbera (a drop more Shiraz to give it more structure after the rainy growing season). It has an attractive bouquet: red plum, cranberry and pressed flowers, the grape varieties working in harmony with each other. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, neatly integrated oak, fennel and wild mint infusing the red berry fruit with a brisk and bright finish. This might be the best Hannibal that I have tasted.
