Score 93/100 · Drink 2027-2042, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025

Red and black fruits, pepper, and floral notes define the 2022 Cornas Brise Caillou, with ample mineral-like nuances emerging with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied and focused on the palate, it has a terrific sense of elegance and precision, as well as finely polished tannins. This is a solid, classic Cornas that will benefit from short-term cellaring and shine for 10-15 years. Drink 2027-2042. Based in Cornas, Matthieu Barret farms his Domaine du Coulet vineyards organically and biodynamically, working roughly 11 hectares with minimal intervention, native yeasts, and élevage largely in concrete or neutral vessels. His wines are always exotic, perfumed, and singular, showing expressive, floral aromatics and plenty of upfront charm when young, yet they evolve beautifully with bottle age, gaining depth and classic Cornas structure. The 2022s offer beautiful balance and precision across the board, and the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage is a delicious, early-drinking effort.
