Tasting notes
I loved the 2022 Hermitage Les Diognieres, a rich, full-bodied, pedal-to-the-metal Hermitage that has the sunny red and black fruits of the vintage as well as some classic Hermitage meaty, spicy, mineral, and leathery nuances. It's medium to full-bodied, has terrific balance, building tannins, and a great finish. Made from 100% Syrah and aged 12 months in barrels, give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following 10-15+. Drink 2027-2042.

The deep purple-hued 2022 Hermitage Les Diognières shows a classic Hermitage profile, unwinding with intense notes of black cherry, graphite, dried meat, cedar and a touch of violet. Red plum tones add more complexity. Full-bodied, powerful and layered, the majestic 2022 outperforms the 2021, literally showing more of everything. The focused finish lasts over 60 seconds, confirming a red Hermitage of outstanding quality.
Destemmed grapes are vinified in open demi-muids with manual punchdowns two or three times a day during the maceration. Aged for 12 months in barriques. Certified organic. Cask sample. Tasted blind. A creamy vanilla note on the nose, violet and sandalwood. The palate is introverted and very tight at the moment. The oak is present but well judged and adds a slight cedar character at the moment. An earthy note on the mid palate and sweet, plump dark fruits come through on the finish. (AC)
