Score 90/100 · Drink 2024-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2024
Coming all from the northern portions of the appellation, the 2021 Saint Joseph is medium-bodied and elegant, with a beautiful floral character as well as some classic bacon fat, violet, and pepper notes. It's another elegant, seamless, juicy 2021 that offers ample pleasure and is geared for enjoying over the coming 7-8 years. While Gigondas’s Louis Barruol is well known for his reference point Gigondas releases, his terrific Northern Rhône releases are, unfortunately, less well known. As with his Southern Rhônes, Louis likes lots of stems and used barrels, and these wines all have classic profiles.
