Tasting notes
A good showing, the 1999 Riserva Ovello is fully mature today, with some evolve cherry fruits, lots of spice, and forest floor, medium body, and a layered, balanced personality. This isn’t going to get any better, but it’s a beautiful, mature Barbaresco that has loads to love.

The 1999 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello shows its typically punchy red fruit and high-toned aromatics. One of the brighter, more energetic wines of the year, the Ovello still has plenty of its characteristic freshness. Rose petal, mint and crushed rocks all convey a sense of pure vibrancy here that is undeniably appealing. Although delicious today, the 1999 should drink well for another decade or so. Rarely flattering in its youth, the Ovello is one of the long distance runners in the Produttori lineup.
The 1999 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello, intense and firm with expressive notes of tar and minerals, possesses a full palate and a vigor and freshness which indicate close to a decade of good drinking ahead. Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
Dark ruby. Huge nose of spices, tar and sweet fruit. A very structured Barbaresco with very backward, unresolved dark flavors along with gorgeous length. Lots of complexity and elegance here.
