The 1979 La Dominique is a vintage that I have encountered a couple of times, but it is now one to avoid. The nose is volatile with light menthol notes, the palate is a husk of what it might have been with a very dry and astringent finish. Tasted from a bottle from my personal cellar.

The 1979 La Dominique has good color considering its age, though the nose is past its best, rather volatile now with balsamic notes, a touch of menthol, but very loose-knit and lacking cohesion. The palate is skeletal with dry tannin, negligible fruit and an austere, desert-like finish with a sign saying "You should have drunk me in the early 1980s" hammered into the sand. Tasted April 2016.
