Tasting notes
The 2020 Minervois La Livinière Les Planels comes from more hillside parcels in the Minervois and it's 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache. It's crazy good stuff, with lots of black raspberry fruits, some floral, spicy, incense notes, full-bodied richness, and ripe, silky tannins. Aged all in used barrels, it’s well worth seeking out, and there's relatively good production as well, so it should be easier to find in the market.

85% Syrah and 15% Grenache grown in clay, limestone and sandstone soils. Fermented for eight days in concrete and wooden open fermenters at 23 °C. Maceration at 28 °C for four weeks with bâtonnage and marc crushing every day for two weeks. Winemaker Robert Eden. TA 3.41 g/l , pH 3.6, RS 2.6 g/l. Ve gan, organic and biodynamic. Natural cork. Bottle weight 600 g. Available in up to 200 shops. Naughty heavy bottle from this biodynamic follower! Deep, shaded crimson. Not that much nose but very flattering sweet/salty combo on the palate. Not quite sure it earns its relatively high price (other than via the packaging?), but it has a future and some persistence and I am probably being mean. (JR)
