Tasting notes
A saline, salty, white flowers and mineral-laced beauty that’s from one of the top sites in Santa Barbara, the 2014 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is fresh, elegant and downright classy, with vibrant acidity and a great finish. It’s one of my favorite Chardonnays from winemaker Gavin Chanin. Note, this spent 12 months in 20% new French oak.

The 2014 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict is the most reticent and understated of Gavin Chanin's wines. Pear, smoke, slate and white orchard fruit are all laced together in a subtle Chardonnay that speaks in hushed tones. Hints of white pepper and mint add an attractive upper register. Like all of Chanin's wines, the Sanford & Benedict is all class. It will be interesting to see how it ages. Chanin's S&B Chardonnay is all from the original 1971 planting. It is also the most subtle of the 2014 Chardonnays.
