The 2010 Barolo Bricco Luciani brings Silvio Grasso’s Barolo line back to a place of sweet nostalgia and tradition. The overall style is modern (with rich concentration and oak-driven aromas that open the bouquet) but the Bricco Luciani cru shows heightened varietal typicity. Pressed rose, smoke, licorice and truffle rise from the bouquet. The wine’s soft contours, sweet tannins and supple texture mean it can be consumed on release or aged longer. Drink: 2015-2026. La Morra. Concentrated, almost dark ruby, with bright orange-tinged rim. Fine oak and dark fruit .Very well balanced and compact and with a gripping finish with lots of concentration, and with real class to it. (WS)
The 2010 Barolo Bricco Luciani brings together the best elements of the house style. Dark red cherry and plum notes meld together in a juicy, expressive Barolo loaded with personality. Sweet spices, tobacco and licorice appear later, adding considerable complexity. The 2010 should drink well early, but it also has enough stuffing to age nicely for at least a few years. Bricco Luciani remains in my view the flagship Barolo at Grasso.
