A wine I wasn’t able to taste from barrel, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop is named after the winemaker, Steve Leveque, whose last name means Bishop in French. This beauty is full-bodied and powerful, with loads of black fruits, iron, tobacco, and bloody meat notes, yet it gains nuance and complexity as it sits in the glass. Full-bodied, uber-rich, yet never heavy, it has fine tannins, beautiful depth of fruit, and a great, great finish. This is a brilliant wine that will keep for 30 years or more.

Dark, unctuous and full-bodied, Hall's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop hits the palate with serious richness. Super-ripe black cherry, blackberry jam, new leather, spice and licorice are all beautifully layered. This dense, full-throttle Cabernet will hold considerable appeal to readers who enjoy big Napa Valley Cabernets. I would prefer to cellar it for at least another few years.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop sings of crushed black cherries, warm black berries and fresh blackcurrants with touches of chocolate box, dried Provence herbs, lavender and tapenade. The big, beautiful, generous palate is jam-packed with black and blue fruits, framed by rock-solid, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with an array of herbs and floral sparks.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop is the top multi-vineyard wine in the Hall range, and draws from a number of top sites within the Hall portfolio. Potent and yet refined, the Bishop possesses quite a bit of depth and textural resonance. Black cherry, plum, new leather and spice all flesh out in this super-expressive Cabernet. The 2016 naturally needs time to fully come together, but it already offers an intriguing combination of power and refinement.
