Tasting notes
The 2011 Tinto is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca and 20% Tinta Roriz, oak-aged for 12 months in large French vats and sourced from 45-year-old vines. It is quite the charmer. Granting that at this price level you shouldn't expect power and concentration, it is nonetheless real wine in all other respects and a nice value. Showing fresh and lovely fruit, plus a bit of an earthy note for complexity, it seems like a lovely performance, lively and charming, gentle but lingering. Drink it young for best results as it is not likely to improve with age and may not last so long at peak, however long it theoretically holds.

Bright, saturated medium ruby. High-toned aromas of black fruits, licorice, bitter chocolate and menthol, with a slightly herbal quality that dissipated with air. Then deeper on the palate than the nose suggests, showing very good vinosity to the intense flavors of blackberry, kirsch , fig, spices and minerals. Gained in finesse and floral character with time in the glass, finishing with serious but fine-grained tannins and notes of dark chocolate and violet.
The 2011 Delaforce has a slightly smudged, gingerbread-tinged bouquet with plenty of ravishing ripe black fruit and a whiff of tobacco. The palate has a slight hickory note on the entry with a fine seam of acidity. Hints of cigar box remain patiently in the background, while the finish shows fine structure and weight. It is a slightly broody infant port, but one with charm and breeding. Tasted May 2013.
