Score 88+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2004

Deep medium ruby. Crushed berries, licorice, violet, bitter chocolate and eucalyptus on the nose. Intense, juicy, extremely primary flavors of blackberry, tar and licorice. Quite unyielding today, even a bit stunted, but not tart. I never would have guessed this was carrying 15% alcohol. Finishes with huge tannins that will require extended cellaring. Impressively concentrated, but will this ever be pliant? (Epicurean Wines, Seattle WA

Score 90-93/100 · Drink 2003-2015, Robert Parker, Aug 2003

The 2002 Shiraz is a hugely flavorful effort filled with copious quantities of blue and blackberries intermixed with a liquid minerality. Medium to full-bodied and elegant as well as intensely flavorful and impressively textured, it should also drink well for 10-12 years. Barrel samples from a fully blended wine, this offering is scheduled to be bottled in October. The wine tastes extremely primary, but it is hard to ignore the extraordinary quality as well as purity of its fruit. Importer: Benjamin Hammerschlag, Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA; tel.
