Deep ruby-red. Aromas of candied black raspberry, mocha and leather. Richer, deeper and chewier than the more elegantly styled 2001 version, with slightly roasted, medicinal flavors. This is a bigger wine, with the tannins covering more of the palate. Still a bit youthfully tough and in need of two or three years of bottle aging. Today the wood tannins are a bit intrusive.

Deep red. Aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, tobacco, chocolate and spices. Supple, sweet, silky and nicely concentrated, with sweet berry and plum flavors complicated by subtle notes of tobacco and brown spices. Finishes smooth and sweet, with ripe, fine tannins.
