Score 91+/100 · Drink 2022-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Oct 2017
(13.8% alcohol; aged in a 50/50 blend of French and American oak barrels, 15% new; from grapes picked on October 9): Dark red-ruby. Blackberry, black cherry and licorice on the nose. Big, broad, mouthfilling wine with surprising acidity to frame its blackberry and violet flavors. Quite powerful, dry and uncompromising, finishing with building tannins that dust the teeth. Incidentally, Harrington did not make this wine in commercial quantity in 2015 because of a poor fruit set. He also told me that he has held back 100 cases each of the 2011 through 2014 bottlings for later release à la López de Heredia.
