Score 95/100 · Daniel Thomases, Vinous

(a blend of cabernet and petit verdot). The '97 was one of Italy's best cabernet-based wines, and this 1998 is even better. Inky blackish-ruby to the rim. Roasted dark berry, caramel and mocha aromas, with warmth and support from the alcohol. Great density and concentration of cassis, blackberry and chocolate flavor; full beyond description but without the slightest sense of heaviness. Plush, sweet and mouthfilling. More than a liquid in terms of texture. Boasts perfect ripeness on the sensationally long finish.
