(finished its malo early, in March) Palish medium red. Nose dominated by lower tones of smoke, truffle and earth. The palate offers some cherry fruit but is more about smoke, leather and earth. Finishes with sweet, supple tannins.

This 10.15-ha vineyard occupies the best land on the Beaune side of the commune, with Grands Épenots being closest to the village. The slope here is very gentle but the presence of pebbles in the soil ensures good drainage. Hint of reduction now but there's lovely perfumed dark cherry fruit under that. Fragrant and then a lovely rich depth of fruit and good length with a fresh tight finish. (JH)
