Lastly, the 2018 Petite Sirah The Other offers up a blue/black color to go with a lively, already complex, medium to full-bodied style that carries lots of blue fruits, candied blood orange, violets, and sappy flower-like aromas and flavors. It has healthy acids, a balanced, elegant texture, and ripe yet nicely integrated tannins. This isn't an over-the-top, heavy Petite Sirah and it has a light, elegant style that's very much in the mold of the vintage.

The 2018 Petite Sirah The Other is fabulous. Inky and explosive, the Petite packs plenty of punch, but is also vibrant, energetic and less tannic than most Petites. Winemaker Thomas Brown gave the 2018 a very short maceration of just three days, and then racked the wine to barrel, where it finished its alcoholic fermentation. That approach seems to have worked out well. These 20-year-old vines, planted with wood taken from the famous Hayne Vineyard in St. Helena, yielded a fabulous wine in 2018.

Made from 100% Petite Sirah, the 2018 Petite Sirah The Other is deep purple-black in color, springing from the glass with notes of ripe black plums and blackberry preserves, giving way to a floral undercurrent of potpourri and fertile earth with a waft of kirsch. The medium-bodied palate has approachable, well-managed tannins and a racy backbone supporting the vibrant fruit through the long finish. Made to an earlier drinking style, this should be delicious with another year in bottle and drink for a further 15+ years. 175 cases were made.
