Score 88/100 · Drink 1996-2009, Robert Parker, Apr 1994

The 1989 Barolo Collina Gabuti reveals more tannin, as well as more depth and length, than the 1989 Barolo. More closed than the regular cuvee, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and will keep for 15 years. Cappellano, who has a reputation for not wanting his wines to be compared with others, has been reluctant in the past to show his products in a comparative tasting. Importer: a Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Inc., Hohokus, NJ.

Cappellano

Serralunga d’Alba’s Cappellano is one of Barolo’s most legendary producers, producing ultra-traditional styles of Nebbiolo. Made famous by Teobaldo and now in the hands of his son Augusto, the estate is best known for its Barolo Piè Franco, a wine from ungrafted vines in the Gabutti Cru.
