Tasting notes
The dark ruby/plum-hued 2011 Zinfandel Home Ranch displays a big, briery, spicy, peppery, earthy bouquet, a supple, opulent, broad texture, surprising richness and plenty of up-front charm and seductiveness. This superb, full-bodied Zinfandel is one of the stars of the vintage. It should drink well for 3-5 years. Tel. (707) 433-3579

Good vintage, cool season. Very even, low 80s for most of the summer, slow maturation. High-acid vintage. Zin plus 13% Petite Sirah (lifts the flavours). 14 months in French oak, 25% new. Vineyard b orders Russian River. Field blend with mostly old vines (1895) but some younger vines. Creamy black fruit. Blackberry and blueberry and cherry. Floral perfume too. Chewy, generous and wonderfully fresh, so moreish and mouthwatering. Finely structured tannins. This is a little more spiced than the Cortina 2011, this is perfumed, ie a little more exotic, whereas the Cortina is more fragrant. (JH)
