Deep ruby. Assertive aromas of black raspberry, Indian spices and violet, with a bright mineral note adding lift. Sappy, focused and pure, offering gently sweet red and dark berry flavors and a building smokiness. Finishes with excellent clarity and thrust, nicely framed by silky, harmonious tannins.

Opaque purple. Pungent, smoke-accented aromas of blackberry, cherry compote and black olive. Concentrated but energetic, with lively dark berry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by a note of candied flowers. Aeration brings out a bright mineral quality and a touch of allspice. Shows very good depth and breadth on the finish, which leaves a peppery note behind. (JR)
